THE AFRICAN AMERICAN DANCE REVIEW TAKES ON A LEGENDARY ACT

The African American Dance Review which takes place in Atlanta is honored to bring on multi - talented and renowned actress, singer and dancer, Jasmine Guy. She will serve as executive producer along with Dionne Battle for the upcoming season set to hit the stage in February 2011.

Aside from television and film roles, Ms. Guy has directed True Colors Theatre's production of "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf" held in Atlanta as well. She also works with a community safe house in South Central LA which includes a dance school that she is the founder of. Jasmine Guy's experience and love for the arts is sure to make for an impactful addition to the African American Dance Review.

The African American Dance Review (AADR) evokes emotion and thought through exhibiting the impact of African American dance on all aspects of today's society. The production includes different eras and genres from the African roots of dance to many of the current types. The AADR has earned accolades including the 2010 Allie Awards for "Best Entertainment Production." They also received 2010 Allie Awards nominations for "Logistical Achievement in Planning" and "Best Use of Media/Technology." Plans are in the works to expand to key B and C markets around the country.

Tina A. Fears, AADR's artistic director, shares these sentiments on the excitement of Ms. Guy coming aboard and the production as a whole, "We are honored to have Ms. Guy as a member of our creative team. Her expertise and passion for the growing arts community in Atlanta is sure to create great excitement among the cast and supporters of the show. She is able to contribute both the on and off stage knowledge of a veteran in the entertainment industry. I look forward to what AADR Season 3 has in store!" 

Auditions are approaching for children and adults who are well versed in jazz, hip hop, tap and contemporary. They will be held September 10th with call backs September 11th at Studio Dionne located at 524 Plasters Ave Atlanta, 24.

The visual masterpiece The African American Dance Review brings to the stage gives dance a new meaning and history more of a story. Don't miss one step of it.

This class will focus on fundamental ballet, jazz, and theatre performance techniques. It will incorporate a series of body positions, stretch combinations, and turn and leap exercises. This class will serve as a technical refresher for its participants.

The Age of Swing I & II

 

This class will introduce students to the dances popularized during the Harlem Renaissance and Big Band Era. The Lindy Hop and the Jive were fast paced partner dances that incorporate lifts and turns. After time these dances evolved and were often incorporated in modern, pop, hip hop, and Chicago Stepping choreography. TAS I- will focus on the foundation of Swing, Lindy Hop and Jive moves. TAS II- will focus on the adaptation of these moves that are also included in Chicago Stepping.

(Youth and Teen Session)

   

This class takes young tappers to higher heights. By exploring turns and tricks popularized by the Nicholas Brothers, this class will have them on their toes. The instructors will transition to modern tap moves while showing how they were birth by tap legends.

 

 

Early Registration ends on August 14th! Walk-ins are allowed on the day of the workshop, however late fees will apply.
