2012 MODERN ATLANTA DANCE FESTIVAL

The Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta's (MJCCA) "Live at the J", in partnership with Full Radius Dance, announces the seventeenth annual Modern Atlanta Dance (MAD) Festival at the MJCCA's Morris & Rae Frank Theatre at Zaban Park (5342 Tilly Mill Road, Dunwoody). One performance only on Saturday, May 19, 2012.

The artists/companies appearing:

Zoetic Dance Ensemble - "The Otherside", choreography by Corian Ellisor. "The Otherside" explores the journey from intolerance and isolation to self-acceptance and love within a community of strong women.

Independent Artist
Kerry Lee - "In Mourning", depicting a Chinese-American woman mourning the death of her mother, belatedly cherishing the lessons her mother taught her. Choreography is by Kerry Lee and Hwee-Eng Y. Lee.

Rhythmix Dance & Performing Arts Company - "Temporal Confinement - An Exploration in Human Suffering & Perseverance", choreography by Tianna Pourciau Sykes. The human spirit perseveres and bondages are broken; however, sometimes it still takes awhile for one to truly embrace what it means to be free.

Refuge Dance Company - "Sabbath", choreography by Katherine Gant. "Sabbath" is inspired by, and set to, a sermon by Derek Sweatman, with drums played by Shawn Cartwright.

SIDEWAYS Contemporary Dance Company - Excerpt from "Breaking Bounds", looking at the ties that bind us physically and emotionally, with choreography by Charlotte Foster and Christopher Coates.

Host company
Full Radius Dance - "Ethos/Pathos/Logos", choreography by Onur Topal-Sumer - an abstract dance work inspired by philosophy.
