SUBBODY BUTOH WORKSHOP 

CORE Performance Company is hosting a weekend workshop February 10-12 by Subbody Butoh practitioner Kats D. Fukasawa. Kats has been studying Subbody Butoh under the guidance of its founder Rhizome Lee since 2005. He spent six months at Subbody Butoh School Himalaya in Dharamsala, India in 2007 and three months in 2008. He has also studied with other Butoh masters, such as Katsura Kan, Akira Kasai and Kim Itoh. He performs and teaches Subbody Butoh regularly in Minneapolis and abroad. Kats is also a Shiatsu and Qigong practitioner, and was recently certified as a Subbody Butoh Midwife (instructor).

The workshop will take place in four segments, beginning Friday night, February 10th and extending through Sunday, February 12.

The residency schedule:

Friday

  • Workshop Session 1:  6-9 p.m.

Saturday

  • Workshop Session 2: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Lunch from 1-2 p.m.
  • Workshop Session 3: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Performance by Mr. Fuakasawa at 8 p.m.

Sunday

  • Workshop Session 4:  10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Showcase with students at 3 p.m.

Mr. Fukasawa’s residency includes two performances at CORE Studios. All events are in the upstairs studio except the performance on Saturday night. The first performance is a solo by Mr. Fukasawa on Saturday night at 8 p.m. and the second is an informal showing that includes the participants from the workshop at its conclusion on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.

Costs:

The entire workshop costs $100, or $78 for three parts; $55 for two; and $30 for one. With payment directly to Mr. Fukasawa by cash or check.

Saturday performance tickets: Charge will be $14 for this performance.
